Safari: Full 5 Day

Our 5-day safari package is meant for travelers that want to visit the big three parks (Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti), but have only a limited number of days in which to do so. This option allows you time for a trip to Serengeti National park, one of the most amazing animal habitats on earth (and definitely the best place to go on safari in Africa).

What We Experience

  • The tree-dwelling lions of Tarangire
  • Ngorongoro rim and the drive into the crater
  • A chance to see the wildebeest migration, along with many other animals at Serengeti National Park
  • An increased opportunity to see all of the African “Big Five” (Cape Buffalo, Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhinoceros)
  • Demonstrations by local craftsmen (ebony wood carving, painting, etc.) (optional)
  • Visits to local schools and/or orphanages (optional)

You will begin your safari experience upon arrival at Tarangire National Park–a short 90 minutes or so after leaving Arusha city limits–after which you will head to the Serengeti, and then to Ngorongoro crater before heading back to your hotel in Arusha.

Sample Itinerary

Day 0: Arusha (applicable if we are arranging airport transfer and/or hotel stay)

We pick you up from the airport and drop you off at your hotel in Arusha. Optional sightseeing tour of the city and markets available if time permits.

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, then depart for Tarangire National Park. Game drive through the park, picnic lunch, hotel check-in, and then finish the day off with dinner and drinks at the lodge.

Day 2: Tarangire – Serengeti

After breakfast at the lodge we set off for the four hour drive to Serengeti National Park. Along the way you will enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Ngorongoro rim as well as the plains and hills beyond, finally turning into grassland for as far as the eye can see. After checking into our lodge we enjoy a short late afternoon safari before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 3: Serengeti

The entire third day is spent at Serengeti National park, and on this day many clients opt for an early start to see the sunrise between. This is peak activity time for the animals, so by heading out before the sun rises you get an excellent opportunity to see large populations of animals. Depending on the season, we can either continue onward to see the wildebeest migration routes, or continue on safari around the lodge area before heading back to the hotel in the late morning to rest before enjoying lunch. (Many animals are sleeping and/or out of the sun during the hottest part of the day–between 11:00AM and 3:30PM.) We will head out again in the late afternoon and stay out until around sunset before heading back to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Serengeti – Ngorongoro

After breakfast at the lodge we depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area (with a game drive on our way out of the Serengeti). Depending on how long we spend in the Serengeti that morning (and if we do any village or craft workshops on the way), we may or may not have time to do a late afternoon game drive in the crater before checking into our new lodge.

Day 5: Ngorongoro – Arusha

We will enjoy an early breakfast so that we can head down into the crater while it is still morning. Starting at the lip of the crater we drive down into the caldera area and spend the entire day doing game drives throughout the 260 square kilometers (100 square miles) of grassland, with a picnic lunch breaking up the day. We will leave the crater in the mid-afternoon for our drive back to Arusha, where we will check you into your lodge for the night.

The above is a sample itinerary, based on the needs of many of our clients that opt for a similar trip. If you would like to make any changes to this schedule please let us know and we will be happy to discuss options with you.
